In addition to the Biennial Conference and the Leadership Academy, ALWD sponsors annual Innovative Teaching Workshops as well as Scholars Forums or Workshops in connection with national and regional writing conferences. Additionally, ALWD funds the ALWD Distinguished Speaker Series, which allows legal writing professionals to visit and share their scholarship with law schools and legal writing programs across the country.

Innovative Teaching Workshops +The ALWD Teaching Workshop is an annual innovative teaching workshop, either adjacent to the ALWD Biennial Conference or to another national or regional writing conference. The ALWD Teaching Workshop Committee designs the workshops to provide legal writing faculty an opportunity to highlight, share, and further develop their creative teaching ideas and techniques. The workshops are open to all legal writing faculty, although enrollment is limited to ensure an interactive experience.

Scholars Fora/Workshops +ALWD supports scholarship by encouraging regional or national legal writing conference organizers to include a scholars forum or workshop, funded by ALWD, in connection with their conference. Each year, ALWD typically sponsors up to five scholars fora or workshops. The Scholars Forum Committee typically issues its first call for proposals in the fall of each year and repeats the call periodically. Funded fora and workshops take place throughout the year.

Distinguished Speaker Series +To support opportunities for legal writing faculty to share their knowledge and ideas with others in the academy, ALWD funds the ALWD Distinguished Speaker Series (formerly known as the Visiting Scholars program), which allows legal writing professionals to share their scholarship with law schools and legal writing programs across the country during one- to two-day visits. The ALWD Distinguished Speaker Series Committee maintains and grows a database of potential Distinguished Speakers, solicits speaker proposals, and recommends proposals for approval by the Board. The database of potential Distinguished Speakers includes Emerging Scholars. These scholars are either newer to the field or newer to publishing in the field and have written one or more exceptional articles that demonstrate their potential as scholars. The Committee typically invites speakers to seek inclusion in the database in mid-December of each year and typically invites schools to apply for Distinguished Speaker Series grants for the next academic year in mid-January. Grant applications are generally due by the beginning of April and recipient schools are notified by early May.
