As the ABA affiliate group for legal writing, ALWD engages with the Council of Legal Education and the Standards Review Committee on behalf of the legal writing community.
The Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, the national accrediting agency for law schools, promulgates the accreditation standards for law schools. ALWD has prepared an overview of the ABA standards revision process.
As the ABA’s affiliate group for legal writing, ALWD provides biannual oral and written reports on its activities and priorities to the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
The ABA Task Force monitors the standards review process and considers the impact that proposed revisions will have on legal writing faculty and broader issues in legal education. ALWD submits official comments on proposed revisions to the ABA standards, particularly those that impact legal writing faculty directly.
ABA Task Force members attend meetings of the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar and its Standards Review Committee. Task Force members periodically report on those meetings to the legal writing community.
